Shelter Nursing Kits

Setting up a disaster shelter can be hectic job of finding supplies to open. Many times the shelters are opened, and the victims arrive many hours (or days) before all the correct supplies are provided. Unfortunately Red Cross just does not have enough of the famed and highly trained "Red Cross Nurses" as they would like or need during a disaster. During the opening of the shelter, one or more medical or allied health volunteers show up (some just walk in and offer to help out) to staff a first aid station which will really become a small public health clinic for the time it is open. Unfortunately, many times the first aid supplies for the station are not provided or staff are handed an odd collection of "first aid stuff" to work with.

Eventually supplies from agencies like Red Cross or other groups like Medical Reserve Corps may arrive and can take over the station but it can be days before this happens and the proper station is stocked.

Our position is that each community needs to stock their own supplies for community sheltering that can be dispensed at once and not wait for disaster relief agencies to truck in supplies sometimes days away.

Our larger disaster kits shown in this section are designed to be the disaster nursing first aid station for disaster shelters and emergency first aid stations based on our expert's first hand experience running first aid station and shelter in actual disasters.
